Why did it take so long? Java annotations are available for over 5 years, but open source vendors still carry config files. Webbee is relatively new web application development library is completely Java annotations based as for presentation as for Java persistent layer. The library successfully competes with Spring/Hibernate and JFC having 10 times less foot print and much easier to learn.
